Creating a State of Wellness Using Art
Many of our former military servicepersons suffer with the issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Participating in regular daily activities is a struggle. Every thought, sound, or smell can be a trigger for debilitating memories that plunges him or her back into a dark place and forces him or her to relive a very paralyzing event. They often withdraw or isolate themselves from friends, family, and society. Some veterans display outward scares of being in a war zone while others have invisible ones. Both are painful and always present.
Therapeutic art helps the veteran separate from the debilitating and traumatic memories by refocusing their thoughts with mindfulness and activities. During the therapeutic art session, the veteran is comforted by being surrounded by others that have had many of the same experiences. They receive encouragement and support from each other, rebuild their self-esteem, and are able to express their thoughts and feelings through the art that is created.
A small gift of just $15 can provide a one- two hour therapeutic art session to encourage and support a local veteran suffering with feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety and other issues related to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Military Sexual Trauma.
Your donation today of only $15 can give them what they need to express their thoughts and to share what they are feeling through art. Donate now and give them a chance to find relief and encouragement.
